Three Levels of NEMT Service

Every rider is different. We match the vehicle, equipment, and level of hands-on assistance to the person — never the other way around.

Wheelchair Transport

Door-through-door transport in wheelchair-accessible vehicles with hydraulic lifts and secure 4-point tie-downs. For riders who use a wheelchair or cannot safely transfer into a standard car seat, but do not need to lie flat or be medically monitored.

Who it's for: Wheelchair users heading to dialysis, doctor visits, therapy, or between facilities.

Stretcher Transport

Lying-down transport on a secured stretcher for riders who cannot sit upright for the length of the trip but do not need medical care en route. Trained crews handle every lift and transfer, bedside to bedside.

Who it's for: Bed-confined residents, post-surgical patients, and hospice comfort moves that don't require an ambulance.

Ambulatory Transport

Supportive door-to-door rides for people who can walk (or walk with a cane or walker) but shouldn't travel alone. Our team provides a steadying arm from the door, into the vehicle, and all the way to check-in.

Who it's for: Seniors and patients who need a reliable, assisted ride to appointments — not just a rideshare.

What is Non-Emergency Medical Transportation?

Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) covers scheduled, non-urgent trips to and from medical care — dialysis treatments, doctor and specialist appointments, outpatient procedures, physical therapy, hospital discharges home, and moves between facilities. Unlike an ambulance, NEMT is for riders who are medically stable and don't need clinical monitoring during the trip, but who can't safely or comfortably use a regular car, taxi, or rideshare.

Medtrek's NEMT service brings the same standards as our ambulance division — background-checked, trained crews, meticulously maintained vehicles, and a live 24/7 dispatch center in Naples — to everyday medical trips across Collier and Lee Counties.

NEMT or Ambulance — Which Do You Need?

Choosing the right level of transport keeps the patient safe and avoids paying for care they don't need. As a rule of thumb:

  • Choose ambulatory NEMT when the rider can walk or transfer with light assistance and simply needs a dependable, supportive ride.
  • Choose wheelchair NEMT when the rider uses a wheelchair or cannot safely step up into a standard vehicle.
  • Choose stretcher NEMT when the rider must lie flat for the trip but doesn't need oxygen management or medical monitoring.
  • Choose a BLS or ALS ambulance when the patient needs medical care during transport — oxygen therapy, vital-sign monitoring, IVs, or cardiac monitoring. See our BLS and ALS pages.

Not sure? Call our dispatch team — describing the rider's mobility and medical needs takes two minutes, and we'll recommend the right level the first time.

How to Book NEMT Transport

Families and individual riders can call our 24/7 dispatch line or request transport online — we recommend scheduling at least a day ahead for routine appointments, and we accommodate recurring trips like dialysis on a standing schedule.

Healthcare facilities — hospitals, skilled nursing, rehab, assisted living, and hospice — can request wheelchair, stretcher, or ambulatory transport directly through the Medtrek Facility Portal, with recurring scheduling, live status updates, and consolidated invoicing.
